Lives and works in Milan.
Massimiliano Viel develops his manifold activities around music and sound.
He studied with composers such as B.Ferneyhough, T.Murail and F.Donatoni and collaborated as a composer, keyboard player and sound designer with ensembles, orchestras and theaters all over the word and with composers such as K.Stockhausen, L.Berio and F.Romitelli.
Besides the production of scores for acoustic and electronic instruments, from soloist works to the full orchestra, he developed his artistic path around the relationship between music and other media, realising performances and installations in close contact with theatre, visual arts and dance.
He is a member of the collective Otolab, one of the most internationally known italian teams dedicated to audiovisual performances.
He has written books and papers in the fields of music theory, sound studies and music education. He works as a tenured professor at the Conservatory of Bolzano, Italy and is a PhD researcher at the Planetary Collegium T-Node, University of Plymouth, UK.
